Aardvark Tearoom and Gallery

Tearoom serving fairtrade tea,coffee and chocolate and vegetarian and vegan options. Smoothies are made from ethically sourced fruit and they use local produce whenever possible. All their art and craft items are made in the UK, from sustainable /recycled / repurposed materials. Open Wednesday - Saturday 10am - 4pm

Carbon

Carbon is a small company (partnership) that makes environmentally friendly furniture, chimney pieces and picture/mirror frames from reclaimed timber. Each piece is designed to be sympathetic to the wood –sourced from old buildings and recently dismantled ancient sea defences from Brighton and Winchelsea.

Carry-a-Bag

Carry-a- Bag make a handmade range of bags to take with you to the shops to reduce waste from plastic bags that get thrown away. The bags are handmade in Hastings using strong cotton ticking lined with recycled vintage home furnishing fabrics such as table cloths or curtains. When you go shopping don't accept the plastic carrier bag - simply carry a bag!

Co2Efficient

Recently set-up and based in St Leonards Co2efficient is the first training provider in the south east offering nationally accredited training in renewable energy technologies.

Community Fruit and Veg Project

The Community Fruit and Veg Project was set up a part of the Five a Day programme at Hastings and Rother PCT. Its main aims are to increase the availability of fruit and vegetables in Hastings, to ensure all produce is sold at affordable prices and to source locally grown fruit and veg whenever possible. It has volunteer-run stalls in community centres and also deliver bags, local veg boxes and bulk orders. It also runs Hastings Farmers Market that was started by Five a Day, which is on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of every month.

Dinsdale Woodworks

Dinsdale Woodworks are influenced by the simple forms of nature, where the wood is taken from the local surroundings. A wide range of products are made from local timbers including furniture, bowls, chopping boards and lamps. The timber is actually a bi-product of tree surgery, where nothing is wasted.

Earthscapes Design Ltd

Jeremy Linden has worked with local authorities, private practices, Groundwork Trusts, historic landscapes, urban, urban fringe and rural design, sustainable design, environmental artists, community organizations, and residents associations. This includes landscape design project development from initial client briefing, project and contract management to final project completion.

Hastings & Bexhill Wood Recycling Project

The Hastings & Bexhill Wood Recycling Project is a social enterprise. The project has been set up with the dual purpose of recycling wood which would otherwise be destined for landfill and working with volunteers and local unemployed trainees to help develop skills that will be useful to them in finding work.

Hastings Furniture Service (HFS)

HFS is a local independent registered charity that reuses household furniture and electrical goods. Reusable goods are collected free of charge throughout Hastings and Rother area and sold through 2 large stores that are open to the public.

HFS priority is to help people with low incomes that need help to furnish and equip their homes so the stores provide 30% discounts for people who receive means-tested benefits and tax credits, and 10% discount for pensioners and students. Proof of entitlement needed. Some essential items are in short supply so only available to low income homes.

Other services:
HFS can also provide a full house clearance service that focuses on reusing or recycling as much of the contents as possible (free quotation visit).
HFS involves dozens on long-term unemployed people as volunteers each year.
A registered NCFE training centre, HFS also runs training in decorative paint effects, rejuvenating donated items and bringing them back into use. The course is free to people who are out of work.

Hempgarden manufacture their own range of fine, safe and effective bodycare products. All of the products utilise hemp as a base ingredient with botanical extracts and essential oils. They use only the finest natural ingredients and avoid the synthetic ‘nasties’ that many bodycare products contain. They keep packaging to a minimum and bottle in glass.

Horse Play Crafty Parties Ltd

This company makes craft kits for children's parties, or individual gifts, which are all made from recycled materials. The hobby-toys base design are made from 90% recycled cardboard, and the fabric and paper used to decorate the Hobby-Toy are 100% recycled, hand cut to a number of shapes, used to decorate and design a lovely quality toy.

Visionary Soap Company

Visionary Soap is a fair trade business making soaps and body care products that works with partners in Palestine, Ghana, Nepal, Madagascar, Cambodia and Zimbabwe. They source their ingredients direct from these partners but make all their products locally. All ingredients are 100% organic. They have a regular stall at Hastings Farmers' Market.

Yurtshop

Yurt Shop are based in Battle East Sussex and manufacture Yurts, Frame and Vellum tents to the highest standard. Their products are made from sustainable materials which are cut from straight timber from local woodland and are generally Ash & Oak
