Carbon is a small company (partnership) that makes environmentally friendly furniture, chimney pieces and picture/mirror frames from reclaimed timber. Each piece is designed to be sympathetic to the wood –sourced from old buildings and recently dismantled ancient sea defences from Brighton and Winchelsea.

Carry-a- Bag make a handmade range of bags to take with you to the shops to reduce waste from plastic bags that get thrown away. The Community Fruit and Veg Project is a new organisation that was set up a part of the Five a Day programme at Hastings and Rother PCT. Its main aims are to increase the availability of fruit and vegetables in Hastings, to ensure all produce is sold at affordable prices and to source locally grown fruit and veg whenever possible. It has volunteer-run stalls in community centres and also deliver bags, local veg boxes and bulk orders.

Dinsdale Woodworks are influenced by the simple forms of nature, where the wood is taken from the local surroundings. A wide range of products are made from local timbers including furniture, bowls, chopping boards and lamps. The timber is actually a bi-product of tree surgery, where nothing is wasted.

The group campaigns for sustainable transport and a move away from a car dependent society for environmental, social, health and economic reasons. In particular, the group is opposed to the Bexhill to Hastings Link Road. Hastings Urban Bikes developed out of a public Bicycle Users Group previously run by Hastings Borough Council. Since then, HUB has established itself as the voice of the town's cyclists and engaged in a series of campaigns to meet their needs. We have around 70 members; our monthly meetings are informal and open to all. HUB members are entitled to a 10% discount on bikes and spare parts at local bike shops.

The Hastings Alliance is a group representing the views of several national and local organisations as well as concerned individuals, which is opposed to the construction of the Bexhill-Hastings Link Road. The chosen route passes within metres of the Combe Haven Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), designated as one of the nation′s most important wildlife sites, and would severely damage the important biodiversity of this region.

Hastings Against War formed in February 2003, when local peace campaigners and anti-war activists joined to oppose the invasion of Iraq. Working locally, and making links with other national groups, Hastings Against War consistently campaigned against the invasion of Iraq. Hastings Against War meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month 7.30PM Friends (Quaker) Meeting House, South Terrace, Hastings.They need help with on-going petitions and planned events on Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Guantanamo, against the arms trade, for a nuclear-free world, and in solidarity with the people of Palestine.
